Mark Call –Parsha “Chayei Sarah” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for the two-part study of parsha “Chayei Sarah” (Genesis 23:1 – 25:18).

This is the Torah portion whose stories may set more “law precedent” than any other in Scripture.

The Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview and intro begins with the first recorded land contract in human history. Everything that later became and element of what ‘contract’ is about in ‘common law’ is demonstrated here. And that is followed up by the story of ‘a bride for Isaac,’ which not only shows us THE template for marriage, but for what it means to be a “good and faithful servant,” and to come “in the name of” the master.

As a nation and a world slide into lawlessness, the foundational nature of the events described in such detail in this parsha become ever more important. But the level of DETAIL about these events gives us an even greater insight into the promises of Yah.

And that is the focus of the Sabbath Day teaching. Abraham is THE original example in Scripture of a “man of faith.” The promises we inherited through him are still at the heart of what Covenant is about. Yet they only became manifest in his life when HE took personal action and responsibility. There is a lesson in that for us. And, yes, again – ESPECIALLY ‘in such a time as this!’

“Chayei Sarah: Got faith? DO Something with it!”

Parsha “Vayera” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for the two-part study of the life of the first of the patriarchs, Abraham, now AFTER his name change. And this one includes one of the most important, and prophetic, events in the Book.

Parsha “Vayera” (Genesis chapters 18 through 22) begins with the story of Sarah’s laughter, and Abraham’s “dickering” with Yahuah regarding the coming destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and ends with the “Akieda,” or ‘binding of Isaac.”

First, the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview and intro:

The Sabbath Day teaching focuses on the elements of character that characterize the Father of Nations. Abraham is the epitome of “chesed,” the Hebrew word sometimes translated as ‘hospitality,’ ‘charity’, or loving-kindness. His level of ‘faith’ is literally of Biblical proportions.

But it’s the way he demonstrated responsibility — not just personal, but beyond — that is of particular interest in “such a time as this.”

“Vayera: Walk BEFORE Me – and be fit for My purpose for you”

Parsha “Lekh Lekha” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part study of the first parsha in the life of the first of the patriarchs, Abram — before and up to his name change.

It’s known as “Lekh Lekha” (Genesis chapters 12 through 17) because the first unique words, and indeed the start of his walk before Yahuah, is “Get the OUT…” of the place you are, and go to the place I will show you.

Is is surprising at all that those words still apply today?

First, the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview and intro:

The Sabbath Day teaching is again about some parallels. Abram, before he was renamed, had a ‘narrow path’ of his own to walk. And he was human, he made some mistakes. Perhaps just as interesting, from our perspective today, he ‘came out of’ a pagan place, as was told to go to ‘the land’ — but that too was in fact a pagan place.

It’s what we can learn about his ‘walk before Me’ en route that we need to pay attention to ‘in such a time as this.’

“Lekh Lekha: ‘Get Thee OUT!’ – Then and Now – so ‘Walk before Me’ “

Parsha “Noach” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at one of the most well-know — and now that includes for “prophetic” reasons as well! — portions in the Torah, Noach (or Noah, Genesis 6:8 through chapter 11).

This parsha begins with the Flood. And there is certainly much associated with that event that most people who only heard about it in “sunday school” are’t aware of. But it also extends through and into the next big “cycle” in history and Scripture as well.

First, the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview and intro:

For the “no-holds-barred,” lets-talk-in-depth Sabbath Day teaching, Mark admits up front the the ever-more applicable prophetic warning from the Meshiach in Matthew 24 about “as it was in the days of Noach” is somethat that we’ve not only done before, but it’s almost “overdone” now. Still, His Truth is ever more so for a reason.

So this will be quite a different look than you’ll hear from EITHER of the ‘whoring houses’. For reasons that will be made more clear as we see the inevitable unfold.

“Noach: We’ve all heard ‘as it was in the Days of…’ by now — where are we REALLY?” “

Parsha “Bereshiet” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week the Torah cycle begings anew, “Bereshiet”, or literally, In the Beginning.

This is the bedrock the ‘foundation’ upon which all that follows rests. And it’s perhaps one of the most densely “information packed” sets of chapters in the entire Book. In the beginning is not just the creation story, or the garden story, or even ‘the Fall,’ and a whole lotta begattin

It’s really about Authority, and obedience, marriage, deception, and exile.

First, the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview and intro:

People who understand that — whether it’s the human eye, a bird’s wing, the DNA double helix, the night sky, or Maxwell’s equations — that there MUST be a Creator, may not be so convinced that the Bible really IS His Word. Study Genesis!

And have them start ‘in the beginning.’ But, as Mark points out, if you REALLY want to understand just how much “information” is packed into even the first verse of that Word, get as close as you can to the Original, because it is literally impossible to translate it all into any other form. Even mathematics…

But that part of the story that ultimately tells us about the human condidtion, and “Adam-kind,” just begins in chapter 3!

Parsha “V’zot HaBaraka” teaching – and the Last Great Day of Sukkot – from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week is THE final parsh the Torah (“V’zot HaBaraka- Deuteronomy chapters 33 and 34) and completes the reading of the Torah for the annual cycle, as well as the ‘renewed cycle,’ which begins in Bereshiet (or Genesis) 1. Likewise, it is also the final High Holy Day, or ‘Last Great Day,’ of the Fall Moedim, or Appointed Times, of Yahuah known as Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles.

First, the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview and intro:

Because this week marks the END of the annual Torah cycle, and the beginning (In the Beginning!) of the next, as well as the end of the week of the annual cycle of His Appointed Times, the cycle that marks His birth as the “Torah Made Flesh,” and perhaps part of the greatest cycle of all — still building to a Climax of Biblical Proportions — it is ever-so-apropos to talk about cycles, and even something Mark calls the “Frequency Domain.” How is that important? And how do if affect how we should walk that “narrow path,” today? This time around…

Sukkot teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week marks the first Sabbath — and first Holy day — of the Feast of Sukkot, or Tabernacles. Not only is it one of THE most joyous of His Moedim, it is always of special significance, and perhaps particularly this year.

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship begins to lay it all out during the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview:

The Sabbath day teaching is about the “rest of the story,” because there is FAR more. It is a look back at the history, and the historic prophecy, and almost by definition, a look ahead at things yet to be fulfilled.

And here, as so properly fits THIS time of the season, the theme is “JOY!”

“Sukkot: We CAN be Joyful in ‘such a time as this’ ” “

Parsha “Ha’azinu” teaching before Yom Kippur from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week is the second-to-last parsha in the Torah (“Ha’azinu – Deuteronomy chapter 32) and also marks a major element of the Already-in-Progress Fall Moedim, or Appointed Times, of Yahuah. Be sure to listen to this one, and share it, ASAP!

First, the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) overview and intro:

The Sabbath day teaching has to start “inside-out” this week, because of the ‘times and the seasons.’ We are near the front end of the Fall Holy Days, approaching the Day of Atonement, and also so very much of what looks like are described as judgments of Yah. And things are literally “coming to a head,” probably violently, world-wide.

Why does so much of what we see in Scripture THIS WEEK seem to point to things we see, well, RIGHT NOW, too?

Yom Teruah teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Since this week, by most readings of the Hebrew calendar anyway, begins the time of the Fall Feasts, starting with Yom Teruah, the regular Torah portion that would complete the cycle, and the Book of Deuteronomy, is briefly delayed.

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a look at some special readings for the first of the Moedim, beginning with a review of Genesis 21 and 22, concerning the birth and ‘binding’ of Yitzak (Isaac), during the Erev Yom Teruah and Erev Shabbat teaching:

The Sabbath day teaching begins with a look at ‘blowing the shofar.’ Since His moedim are so often pictures of things to come, and even things in-progress, it’s important we pay attention to the times, the seasons, and the lessons, and WATCH!

“Yom Teruah: ‘You Were Slaves in Egypt – and are headed back that direction.’ “

Parsha “Nitzavim – Vayelech”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Double parsha “Nitzavim-Vayeylech” (Deuteronomy 25:10 through chapter 31) is – in any number of ways — one of the most “fundamental” in all of Scripture. It addresses the esence of what has become the “Big Lie” of the Whore Church. If you’re looking for a simple, yet forceful, statement of what separates a “Torah-obedient mindset” from most of what we learned in ‘sun-god-day school,’ it’s here. And it contains one of the the central teachings of the Torah in what might be called the most basic ‘two word’ summary of what Yahuah gave us that makes us human, and sets apart the nature of ‘free will.’

No wonder you don’t hear it quoted very often, much less in context.

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship, first for a look at the whole thing, from what that Big Lie is, to what it means, during the Erev Shabbat overview:

…and then for the Sabbath day teaching. Mark suggests that the parallels between that “this day,” and our own “THIS day,” are undeniable. We, too, stand on the brink, ready for the promises outlined, and SUBJECT TO THE VERY SAME CONDITIONS.

But it’s the promises we need to count on, ‘ha yom!”
