Why Does the ‘Whore Church’ Fear Polygyny?

Regular listeners to the Scripture teachings on this site, and radio programs like “Come out of her, My people,” already know why that term – that some might even find ‘offensive’ – is in the title. But if not, read on…because in that title you already have part of the answer.

But only the first part.  And only the tip of the iceberg.  And that leads to the ‘Rest of the Story.’

The rest of that story leads to more questions.  Questions that some reading this far may already know the answers to, but also questions that you are simply NOT supposed to ask!  Which at least is more of an answer to the ‘headline question.’

So let’s start there.  And note, in the process, that how this plays out depends entirely on whether you know what Scripture actually SAYS about polygyny*, that form of marriage in which a man may have more than one wife, or not.  And if you are not already familiar with that easily provable fact, that, too, is another clue.

The point of this article is not to prove the, at least in hindsight, obvious.  It is to examine the CONSEQUENCES, and thus even the motives, for the Deception.  Because that directly impacts how we walk, from this point forward.

For many who have begun to study what the Bible really says about marriage, perhaps the most shocking discovery, at least initially, is that a man having more than one wife is NEVER, anywhere, prohibited in Scripture.  (And claims to the contrary are, at best, bad translation; at worst, they make the point in the title.)  In fact, there are places (at least three that this author can demonstrate) where it may be required.

But the story hasn’t yet even come to a middle.  Perhaps an even more telling argument from Scripture is,  ‘if polygyny is a ‘sin’ in the Bible, then, why, oh, why, would God Himself EVER even use a metaphor like that to DESCRIBE Himself?’  Not just once, if fact, but through at least two prophetic witnesses?

Many readers here will already know that answer, too:  YHVH self-describes as the husband of two wives, variously described as “Ahola and Aholabah,” Israel, the northern kingdom and Judah the southern, after the split following the reign of King Solomon,  Samaria and Jerusalem, and even by repeated references to the lines of their respective kings, Ephraim and Judah/David.  The stories appear in Jeremiah chapter 3, and Ezekiel chapter 23, but the references literally permeate all of Scripture.

And that, too, is a BIG part of the answer.  And also the offense.   Because He called BOTH of those two kingdoms unfaithful, adulterous/idolatrous, and yes, harlots, or, in the modern vernacular, “whores.”  And the reasons He outlines are downright graphic.  But they certainly make the point.

For those reasons, both ‘whoring wives’ were sent into exile, or “put away” — exactly as first prophesied by Moses in Deuteronomy —  and then scattered, where we still remain, “throughout the nations.”  Both history and the Bible make clear that the descendants of that northern kingdom, often referred to as the “ten lost tribes,” later become what is often also known as the ‘gentile church,’ which sometimes claimed various titles that imply “universal,” and even ONLY (which, again, points to the answer to That Question) while the southern kingdom clearly evolved into what now is generally thought of as ‘rabbinic Judaism.’   In both cases, the reader will no doubt be able to cite other ‘common descriptors’ as well…but more on that shortly.

What has been described is also commonly referred to by those who understand the Biblical history as “the two houses.”  (There are, not surprisingly, other metaphors as well; Ezekiel in chapter 37 also gave us the ‘two sticks’ prophecy, but, more importantly, what WILL happen – eventually.  And that, too, is a big part of the ‘rest of the story.’   As is, why it hasn’t happened YET.)

Which takes us full-circle, at least for now.

An honest reading of the stories of the Two Whoring Wives, Ephraim and Judah, or, yes – the Whore Church, and the Whore Synagogue – leads directly to the conclusion that Scripture shows is undeniable:  BOTH are guilty of idolatry (equivalent to spiritual adultery) and BOTH remain in exile, ‘for cause.’  (The northern branch, the Whore Church, was even given a ‘certificate of divorce,’ but that is another, even deeper, study.  And, yes, part of another set of questions…)

And it’s the “why” behind THOSE questions that inevitably follow which lead to the Bigger Answer to that Title Question.

If the ‘Whore Church’ is still in exile, and not worthy of being the “One True Bride of Christ,” where does that lead?  To a whole lot of other questions that answer the rest of that question, “WHY?”

And THOSE are the questions that must not be asked!  Because they begin to explain why Ezekiel’s Two Sticks are not yet “echad,” or unified, in His Hand!

The prophet Jeremiah put it this way, in another set of questions that so many who are beginning to “return to Me,” as He implored the Whore Church repeatedly in chapter 3, are now asking:  Will we continue to “make gods” for ourselves that “are not gods?”

If we begin to question the lies we have been told about marriage, and the lie that ‘there can be only one,’ but it turns out NOT to be YHVH, the Author of Scripture, then what else have we been lied to about?

It turns out that there are SO many other lies, things that have divided those ‘two houses,’ literally for centuries, that will demand answers, and lead to still other unthinkable questions, that it’s no wonder the “Whore Church” doesn’t want them asked.**

“O YHVH, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles [‘goyim,’ others, nations, lost tribes] shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.”  – Jeremiah 16:19

And they’ll start asking questions, too!

———————————–

* Not to be confused with ‘polygymy’, a misnomer.  Because that too-general term also includes forms of marriage explicitly forbidden by Scripture, notable ‘polyandry,’ under the same broad, thus confusing umbrella.  The Bible makes clear that a woman must have a single husband, or the result is called ‘adultery’ instead.

**  There’s another simple, but disparate, answer to the question, ‘Why does the Whore Church fear polygyny’ that merits mention, here, too — but it’s the subject of another article:  POWER.    After the Roman Church realized that a great way to nip threats to its ‘church-state empire’ in the bud was to prohibit the biggest threat to that power – the priests themselves, and family dynasties they might produce – from marriage at all, the next obvious step, less than a century later, was to prohibit the form of family dynasty that produced the wealth and power of the Twelve Tribes of Jacob/Israel themselves:  polygyny.

But that answer, too, points us back to the same Bigger Story, and questions that Must Not Be Asked.

Parsha “Matot” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Parsha Matot (Numbers 30:2 through chapter 32) begins with the topic, and what “YHVH has commanded,” concerning vows. And, as Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship has suggested literally every time it’s taught, it is in his opinion one of the most vital foundations for understanding marriage. As well what has been done to it.

But this year, in the context of a nation, and a world, where duplicity has replaced integrity in virtually every public forum, at minimum, there’s even more here to pay careful attention to.

This time, the Erev Shabbat reading is the very heart of the story:

This week we saw still more graphic illustrations of men who put their hands on a Bible and lie. It’s not just that in SO many cases a “man’s word is NOT his bond” any more, it’s that we have gotten so inured to perfidy that we are no longer even surprised by it, and those who do so have no shame. But that leads to a question, often asked: How did we GET here? It seems there are just too many obvious answers to make sense of the whole.

But that then confuses the even more important question: How do we get BACK?

There really may be a succinct answer in this parsha. The most basic unit of ‘government,’ ordained by Yahuah and outlined in Genesis, and repeatedly thereafter, is the family. And, more importantly, what is called ‘patriarchy’.

And, right there, the problem stares us in the face. The fact that even that word itself is now practically a curse to those who, let’s be honest, HATE His Word, is virtually a proof.

So, how do you destroy a a people, a nation, a world? Start there. Destroy men. Then the family. And they can work up to killing kids later.

This parsha, and this teaching, is decidedly NOT “politically correct.” Which is where we start.

Matot and Numbers 30: How did we get here? And how do we turn back?

Parsha “Pinchas” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Parsha Pinchas (Numbers 25:10 – 30:1) is in fact “the rest of the story,” and more, from last week, and the end of ‘Balak,’ where the daughters of Midian began to seduce the men of the mixed multitude into pagan practices.

And, again, no question, it is one of the most “problematic,” and no doubt confusing to some, in all of Scripture. How can a man who appears to commit a violent act, some might even say murder, be given a ‘Covenant of Peace,’ and Eternal Priesthood, by Yahuah? And, yet, the parallels in the cycle today should — at the very least — outright shock us.

First, the story itself, in the Erev Shabbat overview and reading:

We pick up the story of Pinchas with a reminder of how people who were so specifically blessed by Yahuah were able to be seduced into cursing THEMSELVES..and continue a look at what made Pinchas’ actions so…praiseworthy…to the point where he was singled out for being “zealous” (Hebrew root ‘qanah’) for YHVH and given His Covenant of Peace for violence…that stopped a plague.

But how are we to understand Pinchas’ drastic actions, and his singular reward? It’s undeniable that such a story wouldn’t be IN Scripture if there wasn’t a lesson for us to understand.

We’re reminded how the “watchman on the wall” of Ezekiel is charged with blowing the shofar, and how “do not keep silent” has been commanded. But Pinchas goes beyond that.

And yet, when we look at the idolatry and depravity of the acts that brought on a “plague” that had already killed 24,000 people even before Pinchas took up his spear, and compare it to the “world today,” it seems we’ve gone beyond that as well.

There seems to be ‘peril’ in even talking about some things. Maybe it’s no wonder that the level of perversion, abuse, idolatry, depravity, and outright hatred of the Yahuah has reached “Biblical proportions” today.

Where was a Pinchas when we needed him? But one thing is for sure about the man in the story…

Pinchas: He did NOT fail to ‘Object in a Timely Fashion!

Parsha “Chukat/Balak” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week the regular annual cycle is a double-parsha (Chukat, Numbers chapters 19 through 21), and then parsha Balak, chapters 22 through 24…and a bit more. Admittedly, Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa thinks that’s a bit much for one week’s study, but at least it’s an interesting combination, for reason’s we’ll explore.

Parsha ‘Balak,’ in particular, and the lesson that follows, is perhaps one of the most “problematic,” and no doubt confusing to some, in all of Scripture.

The double-parsha really DOES resonate with the “times and seasons” today, this year, however. From elements of “do this because I SAY so,” that have to do directly with death, to the story of a man who clearly HEARD from YHVH, but somehow didn’t actually listen, are about as clear a warning as we should expect. But, even more, as Mark suggests in the strongest possible way, it’s vital to understand how a people who were so specifically blessed by Yahuah were able to be seduced into cursing THEMSELVES!

Parsha “Korach” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Ask most people who have even just a bit of knowledge of the Bible who “Korah,” was, and you’ll hear the response: rebellion. And what happened to him is almost as well-known: he was taken alive ‘into the pit’ as the earth opened up.

This parsha (Korach, Numbers chapters 16 through 18), and the associated haftorah, from I Samuel 12, is also essentially ‘segment two’ of what Mark sometimes calls the ‘Demonocracy series,’ from the Bible. And that, too, seems to connect to the larger topic of Rebellion.

First, the story itself, in the Erev Shabbat overview and reading:

Whether they complained, murmured, and even rebelled, or not, the ‘mixed multitude’ had a leader in Moshe like no other people in history had before them.

And Korach and his rebellion without question demonstrated some characteristics and behavior that was a precursor to the virtually identical lies we still see today. Still, though, it wasn’t a polar opposite. They wanted power for themselves, but still claimed to want to worship the same YHVH that guided them in the wilderness.

And that is at least part of what is so different this time.

What is the Opposite of Moses?

Parsha “Shalach Lekha” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Most people know of the story of ‘the spies.’

Most who have heard Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa before have probably even heard him refer to it as the ‘first recorded VOTE in history,’ too. And the wrong side won.

THIS year, though, the story has a “special resonance.” It hits even closer to home than ever.

Join Mark for a two-part look at parsha “Shalach Lekha,” (Numbers chapters 13 through 15) and a warning about a failure to “believe Him,” that is just as deadly today as it has ever been.

The Erev Shabbat overview and reading:

What has THIS story, about spies being sent into a land before the ‘mixed multitude’ go in themselves, have to do with ANYTHING happening today?

Mark suggests that sometimes we see things in history and prophecy that “rhyme,” but on the ‘opposite half-cycle,’ where some things are almost a mirror image, or inverted. Many of THOSE people saw His miracles withe their own eyes; many of us have seen a different set of miracles, and grew up in – by almost any measure – the greatest, freest, even most prosperous and advanced, country in history. Because it was built on what were once “self-evident Truths.”

But the question YHVH asks in Numbers 14:11 fits then and now:
“How long will this people DESPISE Me? …and not believe Me.”

Who Ya Gonna Believe – Me, or your Lyin’ Eyes?

“From the Sermon on the Mount to Jeremiah 16:19: Big Lies Inherited from the Whore Church Fathers”

What is the “Two House” understanding of Scripture, history, and prophecy?

How do we explain to those who ‘just don’t get it’ why it is SO vital to understand the ‘the law’ has NOT been ‘done away with’?

And how can people ostensibly read the same Bible and come to diametrically opposite conclusions about, well, EVERYTHING?

And how can we discern His Truth from the lies that we have “inherited from our fathers?”

Mark refers to the vital instruction from His first public address, the “Sermon on the Mount,” as The Razor.

This is a special two-part teaching that Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa has put together as an “overview” of just exactly why Paul so specifically warned against “another jesus whom we have NOT preached.” And how we can recognize when ‘twisting’ is at work.

Parsha “Naso” and Shavuot teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Parsha Naso (Numbers 4:21 through all of chapter 7) is on the agenda for this week’s Torah portion, but after the Sabbath this week is the 50th day of the counting of the Omer, and thus the day of Shavuot, or the Feast of Weeks.

The Erev Shabbat reading of the parsha begins with the last part of the first “head count”, of the families of the Levites, but continues with some elements that are not widely studied by much of ‘mainstream Christianity.’

The Erev Shabbat reading helps explain why:

There are any number of places in the Torah, and in the prophets, where specific sequences of words seem to be used to “set off” a particular story, or make an emphasis, and often to connect elements in the text that might otherwise seem separated.

But there are other ways the Author uses His Word to draw our attention to connections. Imagery is one.

And this parsha demonstrates more than one of them.

The process for determining the guilt or innocence of the ‘sota’ or woman who’s husband SUSPECTS adultery is one such. The image of the ‘cup’ which contains the “water of bitterness that causes the curse” may be one of the most dramatic images in Scripture. It arguably appeared at the giving of the Torah – at this very time of year – and WILL appear at the climax in Revelation 18. But, most importantly, it was the cup which Messiah drank for us. Even though the identity of the guilty was not in question.

Which is why Mark Twain may have been right about prophecy and imagery in Scripture, too. It may not repeat precisely, but ‘rhymes’.

Parsha “Bemidbar” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week the annual Torah cycle reading begins the third Book in the Torah of Moshe.

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at parsha “Behmidbar” (Numbers/Bemidbar 1:1 through 4:20),

The Erev Shabbat reading of the parsha begins B’midbar – literally, “In the Wilderness,” which is a great description of the Book. But so, actually, is “Numbers”.

The Erev Shabbat reading explains why:

There are a number of the “Words in Red” spoken by Yahushua that seem ‘troubling’ to many people. Especially if they have been taught about a warm, fuzzy, ‘popularized jesus’ who is Oh-So-Tolerant, doesn’t have a whip, and didn’t say a lot of the things that the Real Messiah evidently DID.

Likewise, there is a lot about the life of the prophet Hosea that much of “xtianity” would prefer to ignore, perhaps for reasons that SHOULD be obvious, given the lesson of his marriage. But it’s what is prophesied to happen “Bemidbar,” or ‘in the wilderness,’ to those who where once “lo ami” (NOT My people!) that seems to connect all of those disconcerting elements.

And they may even explain why the warning about “another jesus, whom we have not preached,” is so vital to understand. Especially now.

Double Parsha “Behar/Bechukotai” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This was either the week where average Americans began to awaken to the fact that what was once their country has been successfully invaded, or that it was in fact, conquered long ago. And it is also the week where the regular Torah portion gives us a stunning revelation of WHY.

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at a double parsha “Behar/Bechukotai” (Leviticus/Vayikra chapters 25 through 27), and what marks the end of one of the most “unpopular” Books in the whole Bible. Perhaps the fact that it is both so prescient, AND so ignored gives us a major clue.

The Erev Shabbat reading of the parsha begins where the narrative does: “B’har” or ‘in the mount’ of Sinai, and covers everything from the sabbaths of the land, in the land, to the Yovel, or Jubilee, year, through obedience to His statutes and ordinances and the SECOND most famous set of curses for rebellion in His Torah, to things that are ‘devoted’ – and to Who.

The inscription on the Liberty Bell, which begins, “Proclaim Liberty throughout the land,” comes from this week’s Torah portion. And so do some of the curses which are so clearly playing out now in place of the liberty.

In the Sabbath day teaching this week, Mark connects the warning to “those who walk contrary to Me,” in an escalating series of curses, to things that were once unthinkable, but now undeniable: like “those who hate you shall rule over you,” but, sadly, that is only the beginning.

It is the invasion across the extinguished southern border which began to sound SO much like the ‘curse of the week,’ however. And it comes from the set in Deuteronomy chapter 28, which led Mark to suggest some comparison between those warnings.

And a connection which is also an explanation.

“Behar/Bechukotai: Comparing Curses – or – did jesus Do Away With the LAW?”
