The Erev Shabbat survey first continues the story of Yakov’s journey after he leaves home, from his own personal, “Now I know for SURE,” encounter with the Creator of the Universe, to his wives and the birth of his twelve sons and daughter. It is on the Sabbath Day where Mark again sets out to “connect dots”. Yes, much of this story — for a number of reasons — is again “problematic”. From how Yakov ended up with four wives, to how too much of ‘the church’ has been convinced that ‘the law has been done away with,’ when Scripture says so clearly otherwise, we seem to see an element of human nature that might be called “voluntary blindness”.
