{"id":2646,"date":"2023-11-26T07:08:19","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T14:08:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/markniwot.com\/?p=2646"},"modified":"2023-11-26T07:08:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-26T14:08:19","slug":"parsha-vayetze-teaching-from-shabbat-shalom-mesa-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markniwot.com\/?p=2646","title":{"rendered":"Parsha \u201cVayetze&#8221; teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Parsha &#8216;Vayetze&#8217; (Genesis 28:10 through 32:3) begins the new, and most critical part of the live of Yakov, as he leaves home, goes to the place where he sees His ladder, and then sojourns with the infamous Laban and ultimately takes his four wives, and fathers the twelve tribes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Erev Shabbat reading lays it out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/hebrewnationonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/SSM-11-24-23-Vayetze-teaching-podcast-xx.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This parsha contains a number of interesting and unforgettable images and lessons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Jacob&#8217;s Ladder&#8221; that reaches to &#8216;the heavens&#8217; and upon which &#8220;angels ascend and descend.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yakov meeting Raquel\/Rachel. Yakov\/Jacob sleeping with &#8216;the wrong one&#8217; on his wedding night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mysteries of &#8216;mandrakes&#8217; and streaked sticks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And why Raquel took her father&#8217;s pagan idols. As well as what followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Mark was led to focus this year on the fact that this is simply the story of the BEGINNING of Yakov&#8217;s journey, in so many ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that&#8217;s still true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And often, the focus of the midrash for this parsha tends to be the drama of Yakov evidently lying to his father Yitzak, while impersonating his brother Esau.
