{"id":2804,"date":"2025-02-16T06:45:50","date_gmt":"2025-02-16T13:45:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/markniwot.com\/?p=2804"},"modified":"2025-02-16T06:45:50","modified_gmt":"2025-02-16T13:45:50","slug":"parsha-yitro-teaching-from-shabbat-shalom-mesa-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markniwot.com\/?p=2804","title":{"rendered":"Parsha \u201cYitro\u201d teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Parsha &#8220;Yitro&#8221; (Exodus chapters 18 through 21) is named for the man who is Moses&#8217; father-in-law, because he makes an appearance in the very first part of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the portion is most noted because it includes the first giving of the &#8216;Ten Debarim&#8217; (actually &#8216;words,&#8217; or even Ten Sayings) &#8211; most usually rendered in English as the Ten Commandments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Erev Shabbat Reading:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/hebrewnationonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/SSM-2-14-25-Yitro-teaching-podcast-x.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The description surrounding the fact that the mixed multitude of Israel, according to the literal Hebrew, actually &#8220;SAW&#8221; the thunderings, and the other aspects of the interaction were so overwhelming that they then told Moses, &#8216;YOU speak to us,&#8217; from here on out, because they were afraid that if they heard directly from YHVH again, it would kill them, is a graphic indication that THIS interaction with the Creator of the Universe was different than anything that had ever happened before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it&#8217;s something that Mark Call has &#8220;waxed a bit nerdy&#8221; about before, suggesting that it was some type of &#8220;high bandwidth&#8221; download that probably seemed overwhelming to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, superficially at least, but maybe even to a deeper extent given the level of incredible Evil now being exposed, we may be seeing a similar level of &#8220;information overload&#8221; today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the similarities don&#8217;t stop there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yitro: They <em>heard <\/em>&#8211; er, <em>saw <\/em>&#8211; but didn&#8217;t LISTEN!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/hebrewnationonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/WT-CooH-2-15-25-Yitro-They-heard-no-SAW-but-did-NOT-Listen-podcast-xxx.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parsha &#8220;Yitro&#8221; (Exodus chapters 18 through 21) is named for the man who is Moses&#8217; father-in-law, because he makes an appearance in the very first part of the story.
