{"id":2864,"date":"2025-07-20T07:31:33","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T13:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/markniwot.com\/?p=2864"},"modified":"2025-07-20T07:31:33","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T13:31:33","slug":"torah-teaching-for-parsha-pinchas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markniwot.com\/?p=2864","title":{"rendered":"Torah Teaching for Parsha \u201cPinchas\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This week&#8217;s annual cycle Torah reading is parsha &#8220;Pinchas,&#8221; Numbers 25:10-30:1) and it contains what is sometimes perhaps one of the most perplexing stories in the Torah, that of the cohen or priest Pinchas, who runs through two open idolators with a spear, and is awarded the eternal &#8220;Covenant of Peace (Shalom)&#8221; by YHVH Himself for the effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Erev Shabbat reading:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/hebrewnationonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SSM-7-18-25-Pinchas-teaching-podcast-xxx.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sabbath Day midrash is all about the &#8216;apparent&#8217; contradiction. Actually, contradictions, plural:<br>How can a man be given that eternal Covenant of Shalom for what some might call &#8220;murder&#8221;? And, given the context, and history, this is also a man who is often thought to be a &#8220;type and shadow&#8221; of the then-coming Messiah Himself. Can Pinchas somehow be a role model? And what are the parameters, the indications, for anyone else to do anything of the sort?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No wonder it&#8217;s been called &#8220;problematic.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet the story is undeniable.
