“Bereshiet ”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, October 15th, 2017

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa looks at the Scriptures associated with the end of the regular annual Torah cycle, and The Beginning of the next. From “V’zot Ha Bracha,” at the end of Deuteronomy, the time of “Simcha Torah,” is about the joy of this season, and the new beginning as we start — well, CONTINUE, our study into Genesis.

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching is a look first at Deuteronomy chapters 33 and 34, which includes both the end of the life of Moses, and the five Books of the Torah as well, and then continues into The Beginning again, into Bereshiet (chapters 1 through part of 6, even).

SSM Vzot HaBracha – Simcha Torah – Bereshiet – 2017

The Sabbath Day teaching is an acknowledgement that there is FAR too much just in the first few characters of Bereshiet/Genesis for a single study, and that’s just the beginning. So Mark focuses on the “WHY?”

Why is THIS portion so FUNDAMENTAL, so vital to us NOW, and, therefore, so reviled by ‘the world’ in general.

We see IN-credible Big Whoppin’ Lies being foisted – from the Very First Two Lies in Scripture, to the rebellion and failure of “covering” and responsibility that accompanied them, to the consequences – which STILL form the basis — the Rock — for all that follows.

“Bereshiet – Why? How else can we build, line-by-line, precept by precept, upon the Rock?”

“Chayei Sarah” – teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Saturday, November 26th, 2016

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa for some insight into what might be called the first Law Seminar in the Scripture — several stories that literally form the basis for what was once known as the “Common Law”: Contract, Agency, Covenant;
Parsha “Chayei Sarah” (Genesis 23:1 through 25:18).

The Erev Shabbat teaching is all about Learning By Example; “precedent”, even. The first land contract, about one of the most important parcels ever sold, and why. What it means to “come in the name of,” and why marriage is more than a contract, but isn’t “covenant” without understanding, either.

The Sabbath Day teaching suggests that there is a reason why “lawlessness abounds” now, perhaps like never before:

We don’t understand contract, much less Covenant!

Parsha “Vayetzei” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014

Join Mark Call for two teachings on this week’s Torah portion, Vayetzei” (Genesis chapters 28:10 – 32:3 ).

During the Erev Shabbat teaching, (Friday evening) Mark covers the story Jacob leaving home, his encounters with the angels “ascending and descending” from heaven, his wives, the birth of his sons, and his final departure from Laban.

SSM Teaching – Vayetzei 2014

The longer teaching from Shabbat again delves into areas that just aren’t touched by most churches.  Yes, there’s not only a lot that is VERY politically-incorrect in here (from marriage to “romance”) but a lot that gives us insight into whether we really care about what is Written, or just what we’ve heard it SHOULD have said.  (Warning:  adult content, too.  Not surprising, probably.)

Does ‘the world’ get love and covenant out of order?
