Mark Call – “Kedoshim” – teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, May 15th, 2016

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa from the mountains of southern Colorado for a look at this week’s Torah portion, “Kedoshim,” from Leviticus 19 and 20.

What the heck does it mean to be “holy”?

First, the Erev Shabbat teaching, where that question is answered directly, from “beginning to end” of the parsha.  And, this week, current events are a major part of that story:

Kedoshim SSM 2016

During the Sabbath Day teaching, Mark is even a bit more blunt than usual, because the topic demands nothing less. Sometimes if we desire to understand what it means to be “set apart”, it’s very helpful to know, “from WHAT?”

“Practical Holiness”

And the urgency has never been more obvious.

“Ki Tisa” – teaching by Mark Call from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, February 28th, 2016

Parsha “Ki Tisa,” (Exodus 30:11 through 34:35) picks up the story of the Mishkan, and the Exodus, with one of the most important events in all of human history.

In the first recording, for Erev Shabbat, Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaches from the entire parsha, including the story of the ‘golden calf,’ and some of the key questions which surround it.

Ki Tisa 2016    26 February, 2016.

During the Sabbath Day teaching, Mark focuses on what for most of ‘the church’ will no doubt be a VERY uncomfortable comparison: How is today’s paganism so ‘superior’ to that incident that got so many killed then?

Mark Call – Parsha “Balak” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, July 6th, 2014

Join Mark Call for two related, but different looks at this week’s Torah portion, Balak, from Numbers chapters 22 through 25:9.

The first recording is the regular Erev Shabbat teaching, from the Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship, and is again an overview of the entire parsha:

Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaching – Balak – 4 July, 2014

The longer teaching from Shabbat concentrates on specifics from the parsha in more detail.  The story of the king Balak and the somewhat problematic Bilaam has a lot to teach us today.

Shemot – the Book of Exodus – and modern slavery

Monday, December 23rd, 2013

This week’s Torah portion begins the Book of Exodus (aka “Shemot” in the Hebrew).

It is a story of deliverance from bondage, and — most importantly — Who does it.

Mark’s teaching on the topic, and the connections to what is happening today, and what must be understood about it, is one of the most “NOT Politically-correct”, and most important, that you may hear:

Lie upon Lie, Pretext upon Pretext

Check out this podcast of today’s news, including a major segment on the truly masterful lies from the Man Who Would Be King:

Some people may recall that the prophet Isaiah (28:10-13) talks about learning to understand Scripture “precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little”…Obama managed to do to the Constitution (again) what he does to the Bible…
twist the clear meaning to the point that he calls “evil” good, and good “evil”.And —  to top it all off — he manages to use the bodies of children to “oppress the people” while glorifying sin in the process.  (Check Isaiah 3.    The parallels would be funny, if not so shocking.)

Choose Life!

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

If there is a single teaching that outlines and defines what it is that separates a Torah-observant mindset from what is too often taught in “mainstream Christianity” – it is this one:

Life and blessing – or death and cursing – so CHOOSE LIFE!

(As usual, the first teaching in the session is Jeff Gilbert, followed by Mark Call.)

Last week’s teaching goes with it as well:

Events in the news — already evidently out-of-control —  seem to be coming to a head recently.  Both this week’s and last weeks Torah portions  (from the “Talking Torah” room on Paltalk, where both Jeff Gilbert and I teach every Shabbat)  should be of particular interest to those who are not only concerned about how to “come out of her”, but about what we should come IN TO.
