Parsha “Balak”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, July 21st, 2019

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a study of the unusual, but ultimately famous, parsha “Balak” (Bemidbar/Numbers 22:2 through 25:9), for a couple of reasons. Not only is it one of the few with no mention of Moses, but it does feature the Balaam’s famous ‘talking ass,’ and, of couse, more parallels to current events than are even at first obvious.

And the Erev Shabbat overview outlines another major point as well: this parsha is proof positive that Yahuwah not only has a great sense of humor, but of irony, too.

The Sabbath day message is about those parts of the story that are much LESS famous, and less likely to be quoted as punchlines, than the donkey who saved Bilaam’s you-know-what, but no less vital to understanding the message, and the striking modern parallels.

From the context of the story – then and now – to the prophecies themselves, this story cannot be overlooked. There’s an ‘adversary’ working to block our path, too!

Parsha “Matot”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, July 15th, 2018

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for this week’s teaching of “Matot,” (Numbers 30:2 through chapter 32), including what turns out to be one of THE most relevant and important — and openly violated — commandments in the whole Book!

The Erev Shabbat overview, from the statute (or “chuk”) about VOWs, and what Mark describes as “covering” in marriage – to the story of the destruction of the Midianites and why all that first part really matters:

Warning: Adult Content, and NOT only NOT “Politically-Correct,” but downright offensive to those who love Lies More than Truth. The title speaks volumes…

The Sabbath Day teaching picks up the theme of Broken Vows, Lies, and False Witness…because it is hard to imagine a more timely parsha than one which warns against what AmeriKa-with-a-K now rubs in our faces. Picture a Swamp Crocodile smirking while lying through big, vicious teeth, and you have a good clue where Mark is heading.

Parsha “Balak”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for this week’s teaching of “Balak,” (Numbers 22:2 through 25:11), where the undeniably apropos metaphor of “Balaam’s Ass” is only one memorable part of the Real Story.

The Erev Shabbat overview describes a Torah portion that is a significant departure from the “journey to the land narrative,” because it not only DOESN’T include the usual cast of characters, but is filled with ‘colorful metaphors’ that have SO much resonance that they have literally “molded” our language! (Even if we now seem to see some of the terminology as “tacky”. But the reason – even the pun – is right here!)

The Sabbath Day teaching this week comes with another warning up front, this time because Mark is arguably even harder than usual – because the lesson of this parsha is! – on the ‘whore church’, and the paganism that now literally IS pervasive. When prominent politicians, pundits, and priests openly break oaths before a ‘god’ they either “know not,” or just plain lie about, and demonstrate “by their fruits” their utter contempt for His Word, we need to see the “coming battle” for what it is. And, yes, Mark uses some VERY strong language, because sometimes, blasphemy against His Ruach merits nothing less.

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa takes another two-part look at parsha “Balak” this week (Numbers 22:2 through 25:9).

Yes, this is the story that includes Balaam’s famous talking ass, and that certainly makes a humorous and enduring point, but it’s only a part of the entire lesson in this one.

During the Erev Shabbat overview teaching, Mark reviews the “whole story,” including elements that simply must be “spiritualized” to be understood.

The Sabbath teaching, however, is perhaps even more poignant and relevant than usual — as well as more “politically incorrect”. And THAT is because it hits directly on the very war that is still being waged on a people who no longer know what is “self-evident”, as opposed to what is really “whoring”.
