Parsha “Debarim”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, July 22nd, 2018

The historic day of Tisha B’Av on the Hebrew Calendar is this week, so the Torah parsha should ‘traditionally’ be Debarim, the first in the Book by that same name, aka, Deuteronomy.

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for this week’s teaching of that parsha, “Devarim,” (Deuteronomy chapters 1 through chapter 3), where the narrative shifts from “and YHVH said to Moses,” to what Moses himself spoke in the last month of his life.

The Erev Shabbat overview begins with a recap of the journey of the B’nai Israel since their deliverance from Egypt, but largely takes the form of a ‘gentle rebuke.’

There is, of course, a lot more to the story. And in the Sabbath Day teaching, Mark takes a very different approach to that lecture than you may have heard before.

Perhaps even the title sounds a bit “nerdy” — but in this case, listeners will hopefully find the payoff sufficient to bear with Mark through a bit of setup…

“Devarim”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, July 30th, 2017

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaches the first parsha from the Book of Devarim/Deuteronomy this week, parsha “Devarim”.

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching starts with why these really are THE WORDS that still so much matter to all of us that want to be part of “kol Israel,” and called by His Name.

The Sabbath Day teaching begins by noting that Deuteronomy is just plain DIFFERENT from all the other Books in the Torah. And so is this teaching. Admittedly, it’s a bit like drinking from a fire hose, but ‘the Words’ that begin here explain why ‘the World’ so hates them!

Warning: Again, Mark pulls no punches. If we need to explain WHY it’s so important to “come out of” the Whore Church, we must speak the truth “boldly,” as we ought to!

“Devarim” – teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, August 14th, 2016

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa for a study of the parsha “Devarim” (Deuteronomy chapters 1 through 3).

 • Note: These are available every Shabbat during the on-line services at 6:30 PM Mountain Time, and the Sabbath Day teaching broadcast live via links in both Paltalk and Shoutcheap.

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching this week begins the final Book in the Torah, with the ‘pep talk’ that Moses gives to the sons of Israel as they prepare to enter the Promised Land, and literally transition from everything they’ve known for most of their lives — to something VERY different.

And that ought to sound familiar by now.

The Sabbath Day teaching is about that coming “turning point,” then, and NOW.

Parsha “Devarim” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call for two related, but different looks at this week’s Torah portion, Devarim, which begins the Book of Deuteronomy. This week’s discussion also includes a bit more from the Haftorah as well, in the first three chapters from the prophet Isaiah.

The first recording is the regular Erev Shabbat teaching, from the Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship, and is again an overview of the entire parsha:

The longer teaching from Shabbat concentrates on specifics from the parsha in more detail, as well as the connections to the current “times and seasons”. Given what is happening today, and the context of this Torah portion, perhaps a good subtitle of at least one aspect of the teaching could be, “What? You call THOSE giants scary?”
