Parsha “Naso”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, May 27th, 2018

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for this week’s teaching of “Naso,” (Numbers 4:21 through chapter 7) and what is perhaps not only one of the longest weekly portions in the Torah, but one that tends to confuse a lot of people who are trying to “come out of her,” for quite a few reasons.

The Erev Shabbat overview lays out some of the reasons why that is, as Mark looks at the entire parsha in order. (And for those who have asked about why the Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship is NOT a 501c(3) Big-Brother blessed corporate creation, that is addressed briefly up front here as well!)

The Sabbath Day teaching this week focuses primarily on the two ‘central’ themes in this parsha, the process concerning the wife who MAY, or may not, be guilty of adultery, and the Nazerite vow…and how it is that while neither of them may still be practicable, both are still central to understanding what Yahushua DID, and did NOT, do, and how we have “inherited lies from our fathers” about most of it.

Parsha “Acharei Mot/Kedoshim”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Monday, April 30th, 2018

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaches the double-parsha “Acharei Mot / Kedoshim” (Leviticus/Vayikra chapters 16 through 20) — a portion that literally goes to the very heart of the ‘wicked fruit’ that describes why AmeriKa (in particular, but arguably the whole ‘WORLD’) may be in the process (birth pangs, if you will) of being “vomited out”.

The Erev Shabbat overview is again a look at the parsha “in order,” from what happens “after the death” (acharei mot) of Aaron’s two sons, to what might seem to be a disjointed set of miscellaneous statues and commandments that might SEEM like a “shotgun blast”, but do share a common thread. And, again, there’s not only a lot of the NOT ‘politically correct’ in there, but perhaps one of the Most Verbotten passages in the Bible. (It’s probably called a ‘hate crime’ on Kalifornia campuses of Higher Indoctrination if you even quote it!)

The Sabbath Day teaching continues with the major theme of why “boundaries” not only matter, but are being destroyed NOW, for obvious reasons.

Follow along as Mark again “pulls no punches,” and points out why Scripture “love” is properly seen as a verb (known by fruits) as opposed to a ‘feeling’, and twisting the meaning of that word, and the two most important commandments in Scripture as a consequence, are at the root of how evil is being called good.

Parsha “Tazria-Metzorah”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, April 22nd, 2018

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaches the double-parsha “Tazria-Metzorah” (Leviticus/Vayikra chapters 12 through 15) and several very much related (but perhaps surprising!) Scriptures associated with a portion that has been described as everything from “BOOOORING!” to absolutely fascinating. Perhaps because it is SO ‘foreign’, in so many ways, to our experience. And that is part of the problem, and the fascination.

The Erev Shabbat overview begins with something that most of us have at least SOME understanding, or experience with, the ‘circumcision’. And — like so many of these Scriptures that we have “inherited lies” about — there’s a lot of the NOT ‘politically correct’ in there, too.

Note: As you might suspect, there is Adult Content in this series.

The Sabbath Day teaching continues with the major themes of ‘tzaraat’ (whatEVER that is!) and what connections, if any, there might be with “the tongue”, or the things which “come OUT of a man,” and “defile him”.

Follow along as Mark again “pulls no punches,” and points out why Scripture refers to TWO ‘whoring houses’ (northern and southern kingdoms, Samaria and Jerusalem, Oholah and Ohilibah, Israel and Judah, and, yes, he suggests, modern rabbinic ‘Pharasaic’ Judaism, and pagan Romanized churchianity) and BOTH of them were exiled ‘for CAUSE’ (idolatry/adultery)

“Yitro”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, February 4th, 2018

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa another of those truly “pivotal” stories in all of human history, which begins with the arrival of Moses’ father-in-law, Yitro (not to be confused with Jethro Bodine) and includes the voice of YHVH from Mt. Sinai, and the giving of the “Ten Words/Sayings/Commandments” (Parsha “Yitro,” Exodus 18:1 through chapter 20)…
SOME of which, says the ‘church’ may still even apply today!

Warning: Adult content and language. Mark makes it clear that sometimes the truth must be blunt and unambiguous. No punches pulled this week!

The Sabbath Day teaching this week again continues the in-depth exploration of those major ‘themes’ in the story of the Exodus, this time revolving around those “Ten Commandments” themselves, and what we can see has happened since the “law has been DONE AWAY WITH”.

“Yitro: and WHAT do the parts of the ‘Ten Commandments’ that still apply today — if any! — in the Greater Babylon Metro Area teach us?”

Sabbath Day:

“Vayetzei”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Monday, November 27th, 2017

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa for the first installment of the story of Yakov/Jacob’s journey, from his first direct encounter with Yahuah to the place where he later spends 20 years and acquires the family from which come the twelve tribes of Israel. (Parsha “Vayetzei,” Genesis 25:19 – 32:3)

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching is covers the story itself, how his encounter with YHVH might seem to be during one of the most difficult and fearful times of his life, so far, and then how he comes to have wives, children and flocks, and a legacy which spans millenia.

SSM Vayetzei 2017

The Sabbath Day teaching this week really covers a lot of ground. Yes, this is a “politically incorrect” parsha, which again makes clear that what Yahuah Wrote for us is often very divergent from men have subsequently decided to REwrite for Him. But this is a particularly important Torah lesson for us today, because it can teach us how to deal with fear and massive change in our own lives.

Mark looks at many of the things happening in our world today that demonstrate the “scale of Evil” we face, and the choices that result. Will we trust in Him, as Yakov did, or “return to our place” in failure, as Laban demonstrated?

“Vayetzei – Fear NOT in a world full of fear:
from food and marriage to ‘rapture,’ ‘flat earth,’ and silver “

“Chayei Sarah”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, November 12th, 2017

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa for a final look at the story of Abraham, and his wife Sarah, but perhaps more importantly at perhaps THE pre-eminient parsha when it comes to ‘Legal Precedent’. (Parsha “Chayei Sarah,” Genesis 23:1 – 25:18)

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching is an examination of what it literally THE primary story that underlies major concepts of what was once understood to be the Common Law:
Contract, Agency – or ‘power of attorney,’ and Marriage.

SSM Chayei Sarah 2017

The Sabbath Day teaching connects all of that to the lessons of the “Torah Made Flesh,” Who came in His Father’s Name, to DO His Father’s will. How can we possibly know what it means for US each to seek to be a “good and faithful servant,” if we don’t understand the precedents He shows us?

“ChayeiSarah — Legal Precedent, and why it’s ALL about someday hearing,
‘Well done, good and faithful servant’ “

“Bereshiet ”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, October 15th, 2017

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa looks at the Scriptures associated with the end of the regular annual Torah cycle, and The Beginning of the next. From “V’zot Ha Bracha,” at the end of Deuteronomy, the time of “Simcha Torah,” is about the joy of this season, and the new beginning as we start — well, CONTINUE, our study into Genesis.

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching is a look first at Deuteronomy chapters 33 and 34, which includes both the end of the life of Moses, and the five Books of the Torah as well, and then continues into The Beginning again, into Bereshiet (chapters 1 through part of 6, even).

SSM Vzot HaBracha – Simcha Torah – Bereshiet – 2017

The Sabbath Day teaching is an acknowledgement that there is FAR too much just in the first few characters of Bereshiet/Genesis for a single study, and that’s just the beginning. So Mark focuses on the “WHY?”

Why is THIS portion so FUNDAMENTAL, so vital to us NOW, and, therefore, so reviled by ‘the world’ in general.

We see IN-credible Big Whoppin’ Lies being foisted – from the Very First Two Lies in Scripture, to the rebellion and failure of “covering” and responsibility that accompanied them, to the consequences – which STILL form the basis — the Rock — for all that follows.

“Bereshiet – Why? How else can we build, line-by-line, precept by precept, upon the Rock?”

“Ki Tetzi”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, September 3rd, 2017

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaches parsha “Ki Tetzi” this week, from Deuteronomy 21:10 through all of chapter 25.

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching is a look at probably THE most “concentrated” group of decidedly NOT ‘politically-correct’ commandments and instructions in the whole Torah. No wonder so many of us have been taught that not only has it been “done away with”, but it didn’t matter anyway.

And the more we hear lies like that, the more important it is to “search out” the Scripture for ourselves, and see what the Truth is.

SSM Ki Tetzi 2017

The Sabbath Day teaching this week continues that theme, and even includes a bit more “Markology” than usual. (In other words, “your mileage may vary”. When it comes to the question of “WHY?” Scripture often gives us a number of dots…Mark’s understanding is one way to connect them. See for yourself regarding the pattern, and the consistency.)

But the bottom line is undeniable, even if most of This World chooses to deny it:

Ki Tetzi: Father Knows Best!

“Matot/Masei”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Wednesday, July 26th, 2017

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaches from this week’s “double portion” this week, Matot and Masei (Numbers 30:2 through the end of the Book).

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching begins with what he calls with one of the most important topics in Scripture when it comes to marriage and Covenant — vows, and authority. Suffice it to say, it’s been too often ignored.

SSM Matot/Masei 2017

The Sabbath Day teaching explores the ramifications of that fact in more detail. Mark suggests that language, speech, and the way we use, abuse, or squander the “power of the tongue” is at the root of many, if not almost all, of the problems we see in the world today, not just in marriage, but in the fact that a man’s “word is no longer his bond”. And it shows.

Warning: In this one, Mark pulls no punches.

Matot – vows, and outright lies”

“Shalach Lekha”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Sunday, June 25th, 2017

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa takes another two-part look at parsha “Shalach Lekha” (Numbers chapters 13 through 15).

During the Erev Shabbat overview teaching, we see the story of the ‘spies’, and their ‘evil report’, but that is only the beginning of the story and the lesson.

The bigger story has to do with obedience to His Instruction. Will we allow a ‘majority vote’ to over-ride Him? When it comes to a series of events that truly make the point about His commandments, and how important they REMAIN, this parsha is impossible to deny.

SSM “Shalach Lekha” 2017

The Sabbath day teaching looks at the lesson here that is SO clear if we do as the spies were TOLD to do — have “eyes to see,” and LOOK at the whole picture!

Let’s Crack the Code!
