Double Parsha “Vayakhel – Pekudei”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part look at the double parsha, “Vayakhel,” then “Pekudei” (Exodus ch 35 through the End of the Book) seems to mostly describe, in no small amount of detail, more aspects and elements associated with the contruction of the ‘mishkan’, or Tabernacle in the Wilderness. But it turns out that when the Creator of the Universe and Author of Scripture spends this much “ink” on a topic, there’s more here than we have probably heard in ‘sunday-skool,’ especially when we may well have been told it’s all “done away with” anyway…

SSM Vayakhel-Pekudei is the Erev Shabbat Overview.

Mark starts the Sabbath teaching off by addressing head-on one of the questions that may at least be in the “back of the mind” of many: What relevance TODAY, given pandemic panic and likely martial law, does a lot or clearly repetitive information about the construction of something we don’t even HAVE anymore have anyway?

At least part of that answer has to do with cycles, and why (to paraphrase Mark Twain) sometimes the cycles don’t so much as repeat, but ‘rhyme’. But what was vital that the people who had just made, and barely survived, the sin of the ‘golden calf’ DID is exactly what we’d better be able to understand today. That is, if we are “wise-hearted,” and understand why “faith without WORKS is dead.”
