“Yom Kippur”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa teaches two sessions on the Torah portions associated with Yom Kippur, the “Day of Atonement.”

The Erev Shabbat overview teaching includes a look at several of the references which have to do directly with this, the most solemn day among the Moedim of YHVH, including Leviticus chapter 16, and chapter 23:25-32, as well as some related discussion of the specifics of what we can — and SHOULD — still do, and some of the important elements from that which we can NOT, but will still find understanding from study.

The Sabbath Day teaching continues the theme of the ‘chuk’ associated with the “two goats” and the fact that, often, we are commanded about such a statute without understanding “why?” And perhaps the story of the prophet Jonah’s mission to Ninevah — at least so far as he was concerned — resonates with us similarly today.
