Parsha “Vayigash”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for another two-part look at the parsha “Vayigash” (Genesis 44:18 – 47:22), and how the parallels – and even ‘anti-parallels’ – of the time of Yosef, and that famine, inform our options and choices today.

This parsha picks up with the climax of where the ‘cliff-hanger’ from last week left off: that Judah “man’s up” – and demonstrates beyond question to his long-lost brother — even if he doesn’t know that! — that the man Joseph remembers is now fit to be the father of kings.

But what Mark focuses on in the Sabbath teaching is how that demonstrates one of the important understandings associated with an understanding of the cycles in history and prophecy. And part of that involves where we were, and ARE, in that cycle, especially with regard to society and human nature.

Judah showed, by his willingness to honor his oath to HIS father, even at the cost of his own life, what is so different about that time of preparedness and now. Some things are parallel to what happened in that story, while others are literally polar opposites.

Who was “prepping” then, and now? Who keeps their oaths, then and now? What does it mean that the “money failed,” then and now?

And those differences are today a literal matter of life and death.
