Parsha “Miketz”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part look at the parsha “Miketz” (Genesis 41:1 -4:17).

This parsha begins with Yosef still in prison, two full years after we left the story. It is Pharoah’s dreams that now take center stage, as the 30-year-old finds himself catapulted by the hand of Yah to the Number 2 position in all Egypt, and becomes the world’s pre-eminent “Prepper” in the process.

The Erev Shabbat overview lays that out.

The Sabbath Day study still has to do with the “Plan of Yah.” But in this case it’s the CONTRASTS that are interesting; Mark describes the contrast as the “opposite part of the cycle”, of history and prophecy.

Imagine a time – even under a pagan Pharoah! – when men like Joseph were recognized as “discerning and wise” and got promototed to positions of authourity, in order to SAVE lives rather than ridiculed or villified. Scripture describes a number of wise kings, concerned for their people, who prepared for “hard times”.

What marks this cycle, however, is the opposite situation. There are clearly VERY evil people, servants of the “prince of this world,” who come “but to kill and destroy”, and seek not to help people survive the coming “lean years,” but maximize the destruction.

Thankfully, we have the instruction Torah, the lessons of history and the prophets, and the examples of men like Yosef to help US prepare for what is so clearly coming.
