Parsha “Emor” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at double parsha “Emor” (Leviticus/Vayikra chapters 21through 24). And this time the parsha contains references to a lot of things that don’t even exist any more, which – as we will see – make it all the MORE relevant.

The Erev Shabbat reading of the parsha is again first; ‘command’ (emor) Aaron, it says, about things that have to do with his priesthood. Not only does that line no longer exist (at least, as such) – but much of the strictures are ‘insensitive’ and “NOT-PC” on top of it. Which certainly should tell us SOMETHING.

One of the interesting aspects of this parsha is how much has to do with things we can NOT do, either because most of us are not of the line of cohenim, which may be lost anyway, or are things we’ve been LIED to about, and told don’t matter any more – like His ‘appointed times.’

But in fact, the opposite is probably true, and for reasons that might not have even been conceivable only even a few months ago.

So in the Sabbath day midrash, Mark suggests an entirely different approach to the lessons here.

Note: Apologies for the audio quality. Mark installed a brand new audio panel, had it working well, and then Windows decided to change the software configuration. So this is a ‘backup’ recording.
