Parsha “Vayashev”– teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part look at the parsha “Vayashev” (Genesis chapters 37 through 40).

This time the focus of the story shifts to the sons of Yakov, but primarily Yosef (Joseph) — who ultimately gets “more ink” than just about any other individual in the first Book. More importantly, he becomes a central figure in Scripture is just about every way imaginable, in patterns that begin to emerge in this parsha.

The Erev Shabbat overview lays that out.

SSM Vayashev 2019

The Sabbath Day study is really all about the “Plan of Yah.” Here is a young man, at least at first, who might not initially have been particularly “seasoned,” which didn’t win him any points with his brothers. A case could (and no doubt has) been made that a series of events, beyond his control, starting here, brought him to a place of prominence in Scripture. But that doesn’t reveal the whole Truth, much less why it matters so much for us today to understand what it was he was being taught.

Because what WAS withing Yakov’s control was how he reacted to his lengthy, even painful, process of “grooming” for what YHVH had for him to do.
