The Erev Shabbat reading of the parsha begins B’midbar – literally, “In the Wilderness,” which is a great description of the Book. But so, actually, is “Numbers”.
The Erev Shabbat reading explains why:
There are a number of the “Words in Red” spoken by Yahushua that seem ‘troubling’ to many people. Especially if they have been taught about a warm, fuzzy, ‘popularized jesus’ who is Oh-So-Tolerant, doesn’t have a whip, and didn’t say a lot of the things that the Real Messiah evidently DID.
Likewise, there is a lot about the life of the prophet Hosea that much of “xtianity” would prefer to ignore, perhaps for reasons that SHOULD be obvious, given the lesson of his marriage. But it’s what is prophesied to happen “Bemidbar,” or ‘in the wilderness,’ to those who where once “lo ami” (NOT My people!) that seems to connect all of those disconcerting elements.
And they may even explain why the warning about “another jesus, whom we have not preached,” is so vital to understand. Especially now.
