Parsha “Vayigash” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at parsha Vayigash, Genesis 44:18 through 47:27, and the conclusion of the story of Yosef’s testing of his brothers, and what Mark refers to as Yehuda’s time to ‘Man Up.’

This week’s story is about what happens when the Plan Comes Together.

And the blessings that follow.

The Erev Shabbat overview of the whole parsha:

And not only does Yosef’s plan pay off, but even better than he expected. This Sabbath teaching explores the implications of that, and what can happen when we in such obedience that we ‘leave room’ for Yah to bless us beyond our own expectations.

It’s also almost certainly true that every single one of us, who will hear this podcast, have been put here, now, “in such a time as this,” for His purposes.

And, given the times and the seasons, that’s quite a statement.

There’s something else in the mix this week, too, in the haftorah portion, from Ezekiel chapter 37. It ends up being both a severe warning, and a great promise.

Parsha “Miketz” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at parsha Miketz, Genesis chapters 40:1 through 44:17, and the story of Yosef’s meeting with Pharoah concerning his dreams, and his elevation to a place where his own dreams so many years before will play out with his brothers.

The ‘Plan of Yah,’ continues to play out, and this week we see how SO much testing begins to bear fruit.

This is the “in-between” part of the story; the climax evidently comes next week. But – isn’t that true today for us? We’re ‘in-between’, waiting to see what’s next…

And first, the Erev Shabbat overview of the whole parsha:

This Sabbath teaching is another of those where Mark realizes it’s time to wax a bit ‘nerdy’. Is it just possible that literally ALL of what we see, learn, and are challenged with, is a form of “filtering”? Of US, that is.

Which, hopefully, helps to explain a LOT. Both then, and now.

Parsha “Vayeshev” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at parsha Vayeshev, Genesis chapters 37 through 40, and the first installment concerning the life of Yosef,

Certainly this story is among the primary examples in Scripture of ‘the Plan of Yah,’ and how it works out, to preserve life.

But there is so much more here, especially in a time where we, now, are on the verge of a breakdown so similar to – in some respect – but ultimately far more deadly than, the ‘seven lean years’ of the time of Joseph. And the time prophesied to follow.

Yosef has been called the model for the ‘suffering servant,’ and type of the Savior to come: Mashiach ben Yosef. And like him, we have much to learn. Which is why his story is so revealing.

The Sabbath teaching explores that aspect of this first part of his life more deeply, starting with the somewhat unusual introduction, which seems to imply an initial level of immaturity; he is, after all, only 17 years old at that point.

Ultimately, the story is about a life which he might not have chosen for himself, at least up front, but which does prepare him for the work he does for YHVH. And to ‘preserve life.’

Parsha “Vayishlach” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week’s Torah portion is parsha Vayishlach, from Genesis 32:3 through chapter 36.

The story begins with Yakov, his wives, and his sons and daughter returning to the land of “his country and his kin,” after a long absence and obviously still-unresolved conflict.

And this one definitely has a lot to say about dealing with conflict.

First, the parsha itself, from the Erev Shabbat session:

The Sabbath Day teaching begins with some of the contrasts, and the parallels. Yakov has direction, and he has a promise. Several, in fact.

Yet still, he’s human, and when he hears news about his brother Esau coming to meet him, and that he seems to be bringing an army as well, he is “greatly afraid AND distressed.”

Which is where both the contrasts and the parallels begin.

Parsha “Vayetze” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week’s teaching will undoubtedly upset some. It should.

If there is something that Scripture forbids, or – worse still, calls “abomination” (toebah in the Hebrew) – the ‘prince of this world’ that now openly runs AmeriKa will not only call it ‘good,’ but teach children, subsidize, and ultimately MANDATE.

This week the disgusting excuse for a “US Senate” passed what they called the “Respect for Marriage [sic] Act” – which has NO respect for what YHVH ordained, but does glorify the Abomination. The Fake Fuhrer, parroting the lie that “love is love,” will be Proud to put his ‘X’ on it.

Meanwhile, the Torah portion Vayetze (Genesis 28:10-32:3) this week is about as opposite an example as you will find.  It’s Very Politically Incorrect, for exactly the reasons that the Adversary and the Whore Church who serves him just plain hates.

And Mark makes it as clear as he can, and as Scripture DOES, why there has never been a more important time to read His Word – ALL of it, As Written! – than now.

It’s time. Buckle up.

First, the parsha itself, from the Erev Shabbat session:

Then, it’s time to confront what may be the biggest not-so-golden calf that has anything to do with ‘marriage’ – or what has been done to it.  Before there was Licensed Sodomy, or puberty blockers for toddlers, or genital mutilation for kiddies, or anything that followed like flies to a corpse, there was “Rome”.  And its modern incarnation.

Yes, Yakov (Jacob) has more than one wife; four, in fact. Yes, that was how YHVH chose to bring about His blessing and His promise – that through a set of unions in accord with His Instruction that the Whore Church doesn’t like at ALL, and maybe the ONLY real marriages that Big Brother has NO ‘respect’ for – “all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Funny, isn’t it. How entrenched is REAL Roman Paganism when so many who claim to ‘follow Him’ would rather take the mark than admit the obvious?

Are we willing to drop the Xtian Baggage?

Ultimately, it is about “Who is to be Master – that is all.”

Parsha “Toldot” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

This week Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship takes a two-part look at the parsha which essentially covers the life of Yitzak/Isaac, and introduces his two sons Esau and Yaakov. That alone makes it vital to our understanding, but – no surprise, of course – there’s far more here.

It’s also one of the more controversial, perhaps even unsettling, of the stories in Genesis; how is it that the man (Yaakov) so often associated with “truth” seems to get started via a lie? And what do we make of that?

The sequence again begins with the Erev Shabbat reading:

There are definitely some troubling aspects to this parsha. But certainly a lot of things that should sound quite familiar, too. Aren’t most AmeriKans taught to “despise their birthright”?

But there’s something here that we do NOT see anymore in most of ‘the world’ now, either. “Jacob I have loved, Esau I have hated,” says Malachi. But at least Esau honored his word! Consider: Even if he later thought he had been tricked, he didn’t do what virtually every Swamp Creature politician does today, by taking an oath and then lying about it!

And they ALL seemed to understand the power of WORDS. Particularly His Word.

And especially blessings.

Parsha “Chayei Sarah” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part look at the final parsha specific to the life of Abraham, parsha “Chayei Sarah” (Genesis chapter 23 through 25:`8). It’s also what Mark calls THE “Common Law” parsha, because it details some of the singularly most fundamental concepts – by means of stories – that once, at least, formed the basis for all law in English-speaking countries, from ‘contract,’ to ‘money,’ to ‘power or attorney’ (aka, what it REALLY means to “come in the name of”) to marriage. The was He specified.

The sequence again begins with the Erev Shabbat reading:

Mark suggests that this portion is a good example of why “torah” means FAR more than the typical translation to English of “law” – because HERE is ‘precedent’ that serves as the basis for far more than just “statutes, judgments, and commandments.” It’s TEACHING, by example, by stories we can understand.

But, most of the Whore Church tries to teach that “the Law has been done away with.” Funny, that’s what we see when it comes to just about everything that once mattered, too – from honest money, to integrity, to elections.

And that is the key to this week’s midrash.

Parsha “Vayeira” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part look, among other important things, perhaps the most significant event in the life of both Abraham, and his son Yitzak (Isaac) – also known as the Akieda, or ‘binding of Isaac’…parsha Veyeira (Genesis chapters 18 through 22).

It’s often cited as one of the most dramatic stories of “faith” in all of Scripture – but, even so, there is still more to it.

The sequence again begins with the Erev Shabbat reading:

Mark suggests that while the story of the ‘binding of Isaac’ is without question a history-making Act of Faith, when it comes to whose faith was tested, or – better still – proven, for our benefit more than His. Because He already knew.

And that is the key for this week’s midrash. Abraham KNEW, of a certainty, that the promises he had been given were to come though that son that he was given through Sarah. Today, and especially given the level of Evil that has been exposed, increasingly, even over the last week, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that, since elections won’t fix the problem, are we at the point where the world, literally, “doesn’t have a prayer?”

Still, since we who trust in Him DO ‘have a prayer,’ it’s important to understand the promises that we can, without question, rely upon, in such a time as this.

Parsha “Lekh Lekhah” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part look at the first parsha to examine the details of the life of Abram, later Abraham, the “first of the patriarchs” in Scripture. Parsha Lekh Lekhah (Gen. 12:1 – 17:27) begins with the words which begin his journey of obedience and blessing: “Come out” of your country, your home, your father’s house; basically, everything you’ve known, and go to a land that I will show you…when you get there.

And how’s THAT for a step of faith?

The sequence again begins with the Erev Shabbat reading:

The First Patriarch in Scripture, and literally the ‘father of the faith,’ for all who follow, is the subject of more ink in the Torah than any who preceded him. In a world which seems to hate all of His Word, the basic concepts that underlie the family, Yah-ordained ‘headship’, and – uh,oh! – the entire concept of ‘patriarchy’ itself, are particularly NOT ‘politically-correct’ (which today has come to mean nothing short of psychotic) and generally ‘vertotten’.

So this is already a vital part of the foundation.

Parsha “Noach” teaching from Shabbat Shalom Mesa

The parsha for this week, Noach (Gen. 6:9 through 11:32) tells us more about what “as it was in the days of Noach” could mean. But there is, interestingly, a WHOLE lot of “ambiguity” in some parts of the story as well.

The sequence again begins with the Erev Shabbat reading:

This week it’s time for the Sabbath Day session to go in a ‘Whole ‘Nuther Direction’ than Mark often does — because this might be THE singular story – or set of stories – in Scripture with the most “unanswered questions.”

Scripture is clear: We are not to “add to”, nor “subtract from” those things which He has commanded, and are “as Written.” But when we look at the confusion that is today, and ask reasonable questions, like, “Is THIS what ‘as it was in the days of Noah’ looks like?” that we are not only inclined to “connect the dots,” but perhaps even…speculate.
